Recently, some of my online students role-played a beautiful conversation in a florist shop. Their use
of language and rhetoric was masterful. I felt as if I were a bystander in the florist shop, listening in on
their conversation and smiling from time to time at the humour and kindness they showed to another
customer while deciding which flowers to buy for the customer’s daughter’s wedding. It reminded me
of how teaching the Arabic language in a student-centred way thoroughly enriches and transforms so
many lives, including my own.
